Clayton Court Barn Pool
Clayton Court Barn, Underhill Lane, Clayton, Hassocks, West Sussex, BN6 9PJ – Parking at Clayton Recreation Ground opposite the venue.
Clayton is a wonderful private pool for young children. This pool is 8.5m x 3.5m and is all one depth at 1m. The temperature is kept between 32 – 34 degrees celsius. It is a great pool for building confidence for beginners.
Beginner lessons have up to four children in a class and swimmer lessons have up to five children. The teacher is in the water for these classes. Parents are unable to watch poolside as it is too narrow for spectating, but it is possible to watch through the window in the changing room. For very nervous beginners we offer the opportunity for a parent to accompany their child in the pool while they settle in to the class. We also offer two paid weeks as a trial before you commit to paying for the whole term. This way you can make sure your child is happy and in the right lesson.
As children progress, lessons focus on the technical aspects of swimming:
How to maintain a streamlined body position
How to use arms and legs to propel you through the water
The most important swimming strokes. Front and back crawl, breast stroke and butterfly
children have the opportunity to work towards an exciting range of STA accredited awards and certificates, including:
Autumn term skills badge
Summer term distance badge

From Hassocks
From the Stonepound crossroads at Hassocks take the Brighton Road (A273) towards Brighton. Past the South Downs Garden Centre on your left and the Jack and Jill Pub on your right, take the second left into Underhill Lane. Drive past the Church and Clayton Court Barn is on your right. The car park entrance is a little further down the lane on your left. From the pedestrian access, the pool is situated in a small barn straight ahead of you as you enter.
From Brighton
Take the exit for Hassocks from the A23 onto Clayton Hill (A273) towards Hassocks. Drive up and over Clayton Hill passing the golf club on your right and The Three Greys Riding Stables on your left. At the bottom of the hill, take the first right into Underhill Lane (It comes up quite quickly at the bottom of the hill, if you pass the B2112 to Ditchling on your right you have gone too far and can use the car park of the Jack and Jill Pub on your left to turn around in). Once in Underhill Lane, drive past the Church and Clayton Court Barn is on your right. The car park entrance is a little further down the lane on your left. From the pedestrian access, the pool is situated in a small barn straight ahead of you as you enter.
